Vasantha (spring seasons)

Environmental conditions


During the spring season, the wind blows from the south, the sun rays are coppery red in colour, the trees are full of fresh sprouts, bark & leaves; all the quarters are clean & clear. The wind blowing from the south through the rows of candana (sandal) trees carry their sweet smell & surrounded by streams, garnished by the half hidden sun among the clouds, where the earth seems to glitter as if being ornate with precious gems, where the melodious music of cuckoos reverberate & where romantic birds for love making are in abundance. The trees like kimsuka, ashoka, amboja, bakula and others adorn the forest kingdom; which reverberates with the pleasant sound of the cuckoo, bees having creepers full of beautiful tender leaves, shaking by the southern wind captivate the mind.


Effect of season on body:


The kapha that increases & accumulates during the sisira (extreme winter) is liquefied by the hot sunrays of vasantaruthu (spring season). This weakens the digestive fire causing various diseases. Hence the aggravated kapha is to be quickly pacified by various means.

Treatments:


The aggravated kapha can be pacified by vamana (emesis), nasya (nasal drops) of various nature, intake of diet which is light & dry, foot massages, mouth gargles, massage, inhalation of medicinal smoke, collyrium to the eyes.
