Environmental conditions:
In autumn season, the sky is clear of clouds, the earth is full of slush, grass, water Lilly & paddy saplings; with the absence of clouds, the sun rays are spreading wide, very clear & with krauncha birds flying in formation resembling garlands; lakes, ponds having waves raised by the fish moving underneath the lotus leaves & movement of swans; thewater of the ponds etc. is clear.
In this season, many acharya’s has advised to drink the water detoxified by the star agasthya rising in this season which is pure & clear & termed to be as good as hamsodaka.
Agasthya is the name of a star, which appears in the sky on the seventh day of second half of the month of Bhadrapada (mid-august to mid-September) & continues to shine for about 2 months. Hindu astronomy states that its rays have the effect of detoxifying poisons & so water kept exposed at night during this period is equal to nectar. The term hamsodaka means pure water & can be applied to any water which is filtered & potable.
Effect of season on body:
In rainy season, the body is accustomed to the cold atmosphere & hence pitta is accumulated but fails to aggravate due to the frigid atmosphere, when the sunrays become hot & by this, the accumulated pitta aggravates to cause various disease
Treatments:
To pacify aggravated pitta, the use of ghee prepared with tiktadravyas (bitter taste), purgation & bloodletting therapies were advocated.
